The threat of evil is always lurking and ready to pounce when least expected as we go about our limited lives.
A specific cult in the movie "Annabelle" has its ways of summoning inhuman spirits into the world. A young woman by the name of Annabelle is a victim of demonic spirits and murders her parents than attempts to murder her next door neighbors, a young married couple who happen to be doll collectors. The police save the lives of the young couple and the estranged Annabelle kills herself with a self inflected knife stab and her blood drips into the eyes of an antique doll.
Evelyn (Alfre Woodard) helps the young couple figure out the many strange and scary things happening in their house long after the attempted murder on their lives. The soul of the wicked Annabelle is of course harbored in one of the dolls on the couples shelf.
Evelyn figures out that the cult aids demons in their quest for innocent blood such as performing incantations to summon evil angels amongst Earth. Evelyn has vast knowledge and books on the occult and learns the paranormal activities happening to the couple are directly linked to Belial, the ancient Hebrew name for Satan, Beelzebub, the Devil. The couple is now forced to combat Satan himself, before he kills or posses them.
Anymore details and you'd know the whole story. I give "Annabelle" a solid three stars because it's not a graphic blood and guts movie, although there is some PG 13 violence in the flick, but screen writer Gary Dauberman relied more on storytelling much more than today's computerized visuality.
